The reason why people keep buying new clothes is that they want to try different styles and be pretty. The most important use of clothes is like packaging, people need to be packaged by clothes, and their private body parts need to be covered. However, some fashion designers seem to bring people back to the Stone Age.
Designer Rick Owens brought a menswear Fall/Winter 2015 show in Paris on January, and the show was like a game of penis peek-a-boo. According to some history books, we could see some images about people who lived in ancient time, even in that time, people realized which part of body should covered, it also standed the development of social civilization. But when I saw the pantless male models from Rick Owens fashion show, I was really shocked. I am not a fashion designers, and I do not know much about fashion design. But who need clothes to show their penises, sex workers? I do not think so. I think the behavior of this designer has no different with some ‘have been’ stars want to be famous again at all costs, even use scandal. For me, Rick Owens wanted to be famous, so he designed the clothes even violated the principle of the use of clothes.
Another worse design is from art hearts fashion presented by aids healthcare foundation fall 2015 new york. The gereral clothes are normal, but there was a male model just covered by a cloth like a cloak and using his one hand to cover his penis but not completely, and at the end of his catwalk, this male model just took off the cloak and showed audiences his ass. I do not know what is the connection of his behavior to the foundation show. Also, it is obvious a behavior for hype. I do not think that audiences can focus on the clothes but the model’s body.
I use these two examples is not judging the design of the clothes and not identifying what is clothes. I just want designers to think about what is design. If people accept the ‘naked wearing’ way, then the thousands years of people’s civilization will be subverted. On the way of exploring design and art, there are many attractions and constraints that might lead you far away from your original ideas and priciples. Of course, designers want to be popular and famous, and then they can earn more money. But all of these depends on your design and customers. The needs of customers decide what should be designed, and also, it includes some commercial factors. One of the reasons why I chose to study graphic design but not consist on Chinese painting is that design some thing will definitely relate to people’s live. It should be practical. For fine art, there is no limit and bound. And also, not every one needs a painting in their home, not every one knows what is a good painting. So it is really hard to be a good artist. Because it is abstract for art, thus there are some people use feak auction to increase the price of their paintings, and it can lead to increase their social status. The two designers in the examples are just like the people who play the feak auction. Designers should use their design to convince customers, but not use marketing methods and vile ways.
